The global animation market size was estimated at USD391.19 billion in 2022 and is predicted to reach over USD587.1 billion by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 5.2% during the forecast period 2022 to 2030. Walt Disney’s animated film, The Lion King made a worldwide total of USD968.5 million in sales and was ranked as the highest-grossing animated film of all time. The Mickey Mouse animated Television series our kids watch now has a market value of about USD180 billion.
The economic contribution of animation industries in developed economies such as Canada, USA, England and Japan amongst others cannot be over-emphasized. Many developing economies such as Cyprus, India, Bangladesh and the Philippines are successfully developing their Animation Industries that are contributing to their economic growth. Ghana can emulate these countries.
An interesting fact about animation is that it can provide many jobs to the youth. The production of Walt Disney’s Lion King animated film employed more than 600 animation artists and technicians. Just one feature film!
At Animation Ghana, we believe that a well-developed animation industry in Ghana can contribute billions of United States Dollars to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and provide jobs to several millions of Ghanaians.

The Ghana Animation Industry Project
The Ghana Animation Industry Project, which is an initiative of Animation Ghana, involves three main activities in a three-stage sequence.
Stage 1 – Training and Development of Aspiring Artists
The organization aims to recruit more than 1,000 aspiring artists by 2025 to undertake professional training courses to develop the creativity and employability skills they need to work in the upcoming animation industry.
Stage 2 – Setting up of Animation and Visual Effects Studios
Animation Ghana will promote the establishment of animation and visual effects companies in Ghana. Those who successfully complete our training courses and want to start animation and visual effects studios will be assisted to secure the necessary studio requirements. We aim at having at least 10 world-class studios in Ghana by 2035. The organization will also facilitate the establishment of co-production partnerships between Ghanaian studios and their counterparts in developed industries.
Stage 3 – Marketing and Promotion of Ghanaian Animations Internationally
Animation Ghana will promote Ghanaian animation creativity internationally through participation in international animation festivals and competitions.
